Obituaries

Patricia K. Murphy, resident of The Pines Senior Living, Clark Summit, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Jan. 23, 2024. She now is with her loving husband John T.P. Murphy, in heaven, who preceded her on Feb. 10, 2017. Patricia was 91 years old and was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on July 4, 1932. She was the first child of her late parents Herbert and Ruth Kurz.

Patricia is survived by two sisters, Nancy Sundberg and Winifred Cotte; and children by age, John McEwing, Susan Wilson, John Murphy Jr., Nancy Gerstel and Stewart McEwing. Also surviving her are her seven grandchildren.

Patricia was a graduate of New York’s Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School and a homemaker. As her children grew she reentered the working world. First working at Bloomingdale’s department store, then Strawbrige & Clothier where she worked for 25 years before retiring. Her interests revolved around home decorating, Cape Cod, antiquing, cooking, reading and needlepoint. When speaking with friends, family and coworkers, they all commented on her humor. She was known to play practical jokes on all without mercy. Like a true jokester, she took jokes in return with a hearty laugh and a reply of, “laugh now, I will get even”…and she would.

Patricia will be buried after a short ceremony at the cemetery’s pavilion, with her husband on May 7, 2024 at 11 o’clock, at The Washington National Cemetery, Newtown, Pa. All are welcome.
