Joseph (Joe) Robert Reed, of Binghamton, New York, and a Taylor native, passed away Thursday, January 4th, at West Chester Medical Center in Valhalla while surrounded by his loving family as he took his final breath. He was 42 years young.
Joe fought so hard the past eight months as he battled Aspergillus, an invasive blood infection, even mysterious to many doctors. Enduring eleven total surgeries throughout two hospital stays while a trek away from home, Joe’s hope and courage never wavered.
To have known Joe in the least was enough to have lost a shining light in their lives. His humor was both unforgettable and certainly contagious to those around him.
Joe was a simple man who asked for very little for himself, as long as his loved ones wanted for nothing. He absolutely loved and adored his fiance, Marci, and his step-children, Brandon and Ali.
In a short amount of time, Joe’s accomplishments were extensive. While wearing #35 on the football field and excelling on the Riverside Viking gridiron, he set records at his alma mater. He also did the same for the school’s track and field program.
A lifelong sports fan, he was loyal to the Dallas Cowboys and made sure those around him knew when the team was winning (2024 NFC East Champions!).
His selflessness was unquestioned, once even receiving the “Distinguished Service Award” from the Taylor Borough for his bravery after saving a borough family from its burning home. This will never be forgotten, for sure.
Joe also had a love for driving truck which led Joe to follow in the footsteps of his father and mentor, Thomas Reed, and brothers. He took great pride in his craft and his his performance on the road spoke for itself.
Joe will be missed each and every day by his heart-broken family, including beloved fiance, Marci Roth, and children, Brandon and Ali; his father, Thomas A. Reed, III and loving wife Joyce DiBileo-Reed; siblings, Thomas A. Reed IV and wife Patty, Michel Reed and Kristen (Reed) Monteiro and husband George; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Terry and Rosie Blackman; step-brother, Jason DiBileo and wife Megan and family; and many aunts, uncles and cousins; nieces including Layla with Joe shared a special bond and Holly, his best buddy, and wife Danielle Nelson; nephews, Lennox and Lincoln; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and cousins.
Joe is now reunited with his mother, Theresa “Terry” (Zembik) Reed, who preceded Joe in death on February 12, 1993. The duo will undoubtedly be dancing in the clouds for the rest of eternity.
A celebration of Joe’s life is set for Thursday where family and friends are welcome to pay their respects between 4-7:00 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Please visit the funeral home’s website to leave a condolence.
Joe’s family will forever love and miss him so much.
