Rosemary Nykaza, a South Scranton native and recently of Wilkes Barre, passed away Wednesday evening at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes Barre, after an illness. She was 59 years young.
Born on April 14, 1964, and raised in the Nativity section of South Scranton, Rosemary was the daughter of the late Jacob and Shirley (Fitzpatrick) Nykaza. A graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School, prior to her illness she dedicated her life to health care. A certified nurses aide, before working for Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, she last worked for River Run Nursing Center in Kingston where her devoted care and sincere love for her patients was admired by all.
She enjoyed arts and crafts, loved Harley Davidson rides with her beloved companion Billy and she adored her pups, especially “Oscar.”
She will especially be remembered for her loyalty, kindness, sense of humor and, beyond all else, her love for her family.
Along with her companion of 20 years, Bill Hill; she is survived by her children, Nicole and Christopher Nykaza, Brandon “Blanko” Hill, Tanner “Doodle” and Kalena Curtis; siblings, Maureen Monczewski and husband Joe of Clarks Summit, Claire Warunek and husband Ken of Scranton and Jacob Nykaza of Scranton; three grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Richard, Michael and Jacqueline Nykaza also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to thank the entire staff of Geisinger Wyoming Valley, including Dr. Jennifer Hanson, for their collective care and compassion throughout Rosemary’s stay. Private arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
