Hazel (Decker) Silfee, a lifelong resident of the Rocky Glen section of Avoca, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on New Year’s Day. On November 6, 1974, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Silfee, Sr.
Daughter of the late Adam and Violet (Heller) Decker, Hazel attended the former Moosic High School. Shortly after becoming married, she began raising her beloved family, a family that now spans four generations. A pillar of the Moosic Alliance Community Church, Hazel served the church in countless ways. Past treasurer, deaconess and member of the Alliance Women, Hazel devoted much of her life to her strong faith.
She adored her family whom she loved being with and she was truly proud of being a great-great grandma. Hazel will forever be missed.
She is survived by her children, Hazel Leggan of Dunmore, Edwyna Cox and husband Gary of Lake Ariel, Albert Silfee, Jr. of Avoca and Clarence Silfee and wife Denise of Scranton; a step-daughter, Andrea Frable of Scranton; thirteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, especially Marshall with whom Hazel shared a special bond; siblings, June McDonald of Scranton and Nettie Gaughan of Duryea; and many nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Alberta (Silfee) Klebon; and seven siblings preceded her in death including Adam, Benson, Oscar “Blackie” and Melvin Decker, Jane Davis, Ruth Ann Moore and Chilillie Poplawski.
Her family wishes to thank the entire staff of Sacred Heart Hospice for the in-home care Hazel received during her illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at noon at the Moosic Alliance Community Church, 608 Rocky Glen Road, to be celebrated by Rev. Erik J. Ferguson, Pastor. Burial will follow at Madison Union Cemetery in Madison Twp.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until services. Memorial contributions may be made in Hazel’s name to her church, Moosic Alliance Community Church, 608 Rocky Glen Rd., Moosic PA. 18507.
