John Muha, Jr., a lifelong resident of Old Forge, passed away on Tuesday at Regional Hospital of Scranton at the age of 80. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Clark) Muha, with whom he celebrated a 58th wedding anniversary on May 15th.
Born on May 28, 1943, John was the son of the late John and Irene (Leschinski) Muha. A graduate of the former St. Ann’s High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division before earning an honorable discharge from service. He worked as a Psychiatric Aide at the Clarks Summit State Hospital for over 25 years prior to his retirement.
Retirement treated John well as he was able to really enjoy the outdoors at his log cabin in Gaines, Tioga County. From fishing and hunting to archery and fly fishing, there wasn’t much John didn’t enjoy doing outdoors. From restoring his own Ford Model-A to building his own house, he was certainly talented in many trades.
Certainly at peace, he’ll long be missed by family and friends.
He is also survived by his son, Gregory Muha and wife Laura of Dickson City; his grandchildren, Tara, Ethan and Mackenzie Muha; his adored great grandchildren, Octavia and Lincoln; his brother, Kevin Muha; and nieces and nephews.
A son, Brian Muha, also preceded him in death.
Blessing services are scheduled for Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge, followed by military services by the AMVETS Honor Guard to conclude.
Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital c/o P.O. Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main st., Old Forge. Please visit the funeral home’s website to leave a condolence.
