Daniel S. Hack, 78, of Scranton, passed away Wednesday morning at Allied Hospice Center, Scranton after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife is the former Helen Hull. The couple would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on August 3, 2024.
Born in Sussex, NJ, son of the late Albert and Reba Hull Hack, Daniel was employed by the Port Jervis School District for 30 years prior to retirement. Of the Baptist faith, Daniel had a firm belief in the Lord.
The “Governor of South Scranton”, Daniel enjoyed sitting on his porch and smoking his pipe. From his “office”, he would wave and talk to everyone who passed by his house. Never one to turn down a card game, he could often be found with a deck of cards and a poker game. He and his brother Tom built old tube televisions together, and Daniel enjoyed working with leather. But his true passion was television. Westerns and Andy Griffith were some of his favorites. Known affectionately as “Pop”, Daniel will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: his children, Patty Hack and Steven Hack, both of Scranton; 13 grandchildren, Nathan, Kelly, Abbey, Nicole, Dylan, and Corey Hack, Chloe and Makenzie Ezzell, Avery Fitzpatrick, Brody Rediker, and Nicholas, Meghan, and Allison Guarino; and several nieces and nephews
A infant daughter, Kelley Hack (1977), a brother Thomas Hack, and a sister, Claire “Sis” Storms preceded him in death.
Private arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., Scranton. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 100 4th Street, Suites 9 & 12, Honesdale, PA 18431.
