Ann Marie (Needham) Marmo, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away Friday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore following an illness. She was 74 years young.
She is survived by her adoring husband, Robert (Bob) Marmo. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on September 28th.
Born on June 18, 1949 and raised in Scranton, Ann Marie was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Colleran) Needham. A 1967 graduate of West Scranton High School, Ann Marie then began raising her daughters shortly afterward. Possessing a tireless work ethic, she would eventually retire as a supervisor for Sarno & Son Formalwear in Scranton.
Ann Marie will be remembered in so many ways. A longtime gardener, she loved nurturing her flowers through the spring and summer and harvesting her vegetables each fall. She served as Bob’s Harley-Davidson co-pilot for many miles and decades. She was an amazing cook who loved to feed those around her. Her Thanksgiving dinners were legendary and, despite her Irish heritage, it would be hard to find a better Italian cook than Ann Marie.
She was kind, caring and undoubtedly selfless, but also feisty and protective of her loved ones. Her family was, above all else, her priority. She was immensely proud of her daughters, and her legacy lives on through them and her four grandchildren and great grandson, whom she adored as their “Nana.” She’ll forever be loved by family and friends.
Her family would like to thank the entire staff of both the Lehigh Valley Hospital–Dickson City and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the collective care given to Ann Marie throughout the past several weeks.
Along with Bob, she is also survived by her daughters, Lisa Grealish and her husband Jareth of Easton and Gia Marmo and husband Tyler Diaz of Fort Lauderdale, Fl.; her grandchildren, Brionna Kasper, Brooke Chesik, Brenna Grealish and Torin Grealish; a great grandson, Nolan Kasper; and many nieces and nephews.
The last of the six Needham siblings, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James, William and Joseph Needham; and sisters, Mary McGinley and Irene Webb.
A Celebration of Ann Marie’s life is scheduled for December 16th with services at 11:00 AM in the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with burial to follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until services.
