Robert J. Rowlands, of Taylor, passed away Monday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, after an illness. He was 64 years old.
Born on March 8, 1959 and raised in Taylor, he was the son of the late James, Sr. and Mary (Wylam) Rowlands. A 1978 graduate of Riverside High School, he then began a career in construction. A skilled general laborer, there wasn’t much he couldn’t do. He was always an amazing cook and eventually became a familiar face in the kitchen at Julia’s Restaurant in Old Forge.
From biking to Sunday drives through the country, Robert loved the outdoors. He was a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan and a faithful collector of coins and, of course, Zippo lighters.
Above all else came his family. He was proud of his children and adored his grandchildren. Taken too soon, he’ll long be missed.
He is survived by his family, including three children, Jamie Rowlands and wife Marisa of Omaha, NE, Holly Rowlands of Taylor and Brandon Rowlands and wife Alexis of Garner, NC; seven grandchildren; a great grandchild; four siblings, Joyce Landmesser and Robin Pliss, both of Taylor, John Rowlands and wife Dorothy of Duryea and James Rowlands and Dorothy of Pittston; many nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Charlotte Boyle of MN. His sister, Lynn Biscontini, preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Robert’s Life is scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church, 174 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be conducted by Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora, Pastor. Private interment, Milwaukee Cemetery. Those attending the services are asked to go directly to the church.
