Dolores “Dee” (Lord) Piepoli, a lifelong Scranton resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening at Elan Gardens in Clarks Summit with her loving family by her side. She was 82 years young.
She is survived by the love of her life, her best friend and husband of 59 years, John Piepoli.
Born on Valentine’s Day 1941 and raised in North Scranton, Dolores was the daughter of the late Jerome J. and Rose (Hayner) Lord. She attended Scranton Technical High School where she studied home economics. A majorette on the cheerleading team, she was also crowned “Belle of the Class of 1959”. She then attended beauty school at night and volunteered as a candy striper at Mercy Hospital. After graduating from high school, she went to work at Capitol Records in Scranton while raising her beloved daughters.
Dee, memorable in so many ways from her engaging smile to her exuding class, will never be forgotten.
Along with John, she is also survived by an adoring family, daughters Nancy Medico of Shavertown and Catherine McElwee and husband John of Bryn Mawr; grandchildren, Mia Medico Borner and husband Matt, Mariano Medico, John McElwee, Jr., Joseph McElwee and James McElwee, a great grandchild, Wren Borner; a sister, Margaret “Maggie” Miller and husband Jerry of Kingsley.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank the Memory Lane care givers of Elan Gardens for their kindness and compassion to Dee throughout her stay.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 AM at Nativity of Our Lord Church, St. John Neumann Parish, 633 Orchard St., Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Jonathan Kuhar, Pastor. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until Mass. Intertment, private, and those attending the services are asked to go directly to church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dolores (Dee’s) name to the St. Ann’s Monastery and Shrine Basilica c/o 1233 St. Ann Street, Scranton, PA 18504.
