Nicholas (Nick) LaChase, Sr., a longtime Peckville resident, passed away Friday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore, after a battle with cancer. He was 77 years young.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 26, 1946, and son of the late Nicholas and Catherine (McCullough) LaChase, Nick was a self-employed construction worker for, amazingly, sixty years. Possessing an admirable work ethic, he still worked until several months ago when illness prohibited from doing so.
He’ll forever be remembered in so many ways. He was generous, kind and always helping someone in need. A die-hard fisherman through and through, Nick was also a great cook and an adoring father and grandpa. Some of his greatest memories were made during the Lachase family vacations at the shore. He possessed a great sense of humor and he was rarely incognito, as his trademark red truck was always seen coming a mile away.He will forever be missed by family and friends alike.
He is survived by his loving family, including his three children, Nadine Cortes and husband Marcos of Scranton, Janine Wetzel and husband Jeff of New Salem, N.D., and Nick LaChase, Jr. and wife Jaime of Tunkhannock; six beloved grandchildren, Brittney, Katerina, James, Kassandra and Nicho Lachase and Journey Wetzel; a great granddaughter, Isabella Bannon; a brother, James McKeever of N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.
His longtime companion, Patricia (Sokoloski) Cox, also preceded him in death on January 10th.
His family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassion, kindness and outstanding care.
Blessing services are scheduled for Tuesday at noon in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
Family and friend may pay their respects on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Nick’s name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart’s Memorial Fund c/o 53 Glenmaura National Boulevard, Suite 120, Moosic, PA. 18507.
