Peter Panajote Samartzis, a Sydney, Australia resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, while visiting his daughter in Shavertown. He was 74 years young.
He was born on January 5, 1949, and son of the late Christina and George Samartzis. Peter was a native of Mytilene, Greece, before moving with his family to Sydney at the age of eight. Possessing a tireless work ethic, his dedication to every endeavor he pursued was evident throughout his successful career. An incredible business man, he owned and operated a security consultant business in the greater Sydney area.
Peter will long be remembered for his work ethic, his passion for world traveling, his love of music, his skills as a handyman, his innate ability to be a problem solver and his loving nature, and selflessness.
Perpetually happy, with his unforgettable smile, upon meeting Peter you would instantly feel his kind heart and loving nature. His positive energy was like a magnet, always drawing others to him. He’d be the first one to offer his wisdom if needed and the first one to brighten your day if you were feeling down.
Above all else, was his family. His legacy will certainly long live on through the amazing children he leaves behind.
He is survived by his adoring children, Dora (Samartzis) Sims of Shavertown and George Samartzis of Sydney; his grandson, Carter Joseph Sims of Shavertown; his siblings, Theodore Samartzis and Anna Samartzis, both of Sydney; and multiple nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.
An animal lover, especially of dogs, memorial contributions may be made in Peter’s name to the Northeast PA Pet Fund and Rescue c/o P.O. Box 3953, Scranton, PA 18505.
Private blessing services were celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox with arrangements under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
