Arlene Arlandis, formerly of West Scranton, passed away on Monday morning at Oak Ridge Rehabilitation Center, after an illness. She was 88 years old.
On November 21, 2017, Arlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Ferdinand Arlandis.
Born in Scranton on August 7, 1935 and daughter of the late Stanley and Ruth (Flesch) Nytch, Arlene was a 1953 graduate of West Scranton High School. Upon raising her family, she would go on to work for the Scranton School District as a math lab aide for over 25 years prior to her well-deserved retirement.
Arlene never passed up a good tabloid magazine and was a whiz at crossword puzzles. She absolutely adored her animals, especially dogs, and as a cook, no one was better. Some of her family’s greatest memories were made during Sunday and/or holiday dinners at Arlene’s home which she always took great pride in hosting.
Arlene was spiritual, faithful and a devoted Roman Catholic who was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in West Scranton. Her love of The Lord was certainly strong and she was an avid attendee of St. Ann Basilica’s Solemn Novena.
Above all else was her humble nature which her family will long remember. Reunited with Ferdinand on Monday morning, she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her loving family, including two adoring daughters, Catherine Petrini and husband, John; and Jo Ann Arlandis, all of Old Forge; three loving grandchildren, John Petrini and wife, Carly; Matthew Petrini and wife, Keri, and Lana Petrini; five great grandchildren, Chase, Cole, Everly, Zoey and Mila; her sister, Ann Nytch of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
An infant son, Ferdinand, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to thank the entire staffs of Oak Ridge, Serenity Care and Compassionate Care Hospice as well as dear family friend, Floss Babiarz, for the amazing care they collectively gave to both Arlene and her family throughout her illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday at 10 at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Richard Fox, pastor. Entombment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum, Scranton.
Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Arlene’s name to the Wills Eye Foundation c/o 840 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107
Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton.
