Ruth A. Caterino, 90, of Taylor, and a resident of Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the past two and a half years, passed away Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, after an illness. Her loving husband of 66 years was the late Salvatore Caterino, Sr., who died December 20, 2021.
Born April 8, 1933 in Scranton, daughter of the late Alex and Emily Schultz Budzinski, Ruth was a graduate of West Scranton High School. of the Roman Catholic faith, Ruth was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Basilica Parish, Scranton.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Ruth was an excellent cook and baker who enjoyed hosting holiday meals for the entire family. Ruth made her family her whole life, and cherished her time with them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving family, including children, Salvatore Caterino, Jr. and wife Patricia of Scranton and Michele Pehanick and husband Kenneth of Destin, Florida; grandchildren, Salvatore Caterino, III and wife Jessica (Butler), Nicole Benzeleski and husband Scott, and Derek Pehanick and wife Melinda; great grandchildren, Mia Caterino, Ethan Stangline and twins Hunter and Ryder Benzeleski; a granddaughter-in-law, Robyn Pehanick.
A grandson, Julian Pehanick, preceded her in death.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire staff of Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the amazing care, compassion and kindness given to both Ruth and her family throughout her stay with them.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11 AM Thursday in Saint Ann’s Basilica, St. Ann St., West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Burke, C.P., Pastor. Burial will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital c/o 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
