George G. Sworen, 70, Old Forge, passed away Monday at home following a brief illness. He is survived by his devoted wife, the former Constance Barlik. Together, they celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on August 9th.
Born June 25, 1953 in Old Forge to the late George and Mary Massini Sworen, George was a 1971 graduate of Old Forge High School and attended Penn State University. George was a skilled carpenter, having worked at Simplex Homes, Contempri Homes, and later as a partner in RAK Construction. In 2019, George retired from Erie Materials, Scranton, where he was an inside salesman.
George was a talented bass player and member of many local bands, especially The Front Porch Rockers with his dear friends, the late Tom and Joe Doherty. An avid fan of the Nittany Lions, NY Yankees, and the Dallas Cowboys, he had no problem giving his opinions on the coaching. Throughout his life, he enjoyed pistol shooting, golfing, fishing, and family vacations to North Wildwood, making many happy memories. Sitting in his favorite rocking chair on his front porch with a good cup of coffee was heaven to him.
Surviving are a son, George Sworen, and his companion, Katrine and her son, Matthew, Old Forge; Brothers-in-law, John Barlik, Hughestown, and Francis Barlik, and wife, Erin, Hanover Twp.; nephews, John Barlik and Matthew Barlik; a niece and godchild, Sofie Barlik; a godson, Kiel Eigen, Moosic; several cousins, many good friends, and the best dog ever, Miller.
His sister-in-law, Paulette Barlik, preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday at 9:30 AM in Holy Rosary Church, Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea, to be celebrated by Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Interment will be private in St. Mary’s Byzantine Cemetery, Taylor.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 4 – 7 PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge. To leave an online condolence, please visit the funeral home website.
