Henry “Fletcher” Jeffers, age 85 and a longtime Old Forge resident, passed away Friday afternoon at home following an illness. On February 20, 1999, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Philomena (Graziano) Jeffers.
A Florence, South Carolina native, Fletcher was born on May 13, 1938, to the late Henry Lexie and Eula Lee (Munn) Jeffers. A journeyman painter by trade, he was always noted for meticulous work.
A longtime sports fan, Fletcher especially loved New York Yankees baseball. He never passed up a good western or country movie and, a loyal Elvis Presley enthusiast, “The King of Rock and Roll” just lost one of his biggest fans.
Kind, caring and generous to a fault, simply knowing Fletcher was enough to love him. His perpetual smile, warm personality and friendly nature all made it easy for any one who met him to know that he was a good and genuine person. He will long be missed.
He is survived by adoring family, Margie Wilchinski and husband Michael of Laflin, Philomena Gryczko and fiance James Fink of Old Forge and Tanya Gaddy of Old Forge; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; a sister, Lexie Mae Harris and husband Donnie, N.C.; and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by children, Fletcher Jeffers and Theresa Smith; a grandson, Anthony Gryczko; and siblings, Walter “Bubba” Jeffers, Sr., James McCowan and an infant sister.
Funeral services by Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora are scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 4-6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Fletcher’s name to the National Autism Association c/o One Park Avenue, Suite 1. Portsmouth, RI 02871.
