Irene (Drag) Fletcher, age 91 and a lifelong resident of Taylor, passed away peacefully on Friday evening at Allied Hospice in Scranton. On September 14, 2020, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 amazing years, William G. Fletcher.
Born on December 11, 1931, Irene was the daughter of the late Stanley and Agnes (Brushinski) Drag. A Taylor native, she was a graduate of the former Taylor High School. Upon marriage, she began raising her adored children, Billy and Joyce. From that point on, family became the cornerstone of everything she was.
She’ll be forever remembered for countless things but loving, giving, generosity and thoughtfulness were certainly atop the list. She was a prolific mailer of greeting cards to each and every member of her family for each holiday and every special occasion. Certainly unforgettable, these cards came sprayed with “nanny’s” favorite perfume.
A selfless caregiver, even beyond the care for her family, she adored and cared for animals – either her own pups, or feeding the birds. Her impact on the lives of her family is deeply forged. They will proudly continue to carry on her legacy, one generation after another.
She is also survived by her loving family, including her three grandsons, Jason Siminski and wife Laura of Virginia, Jamie Siminski and wife Amy of FL, and Ryan Fletcher and wife Mariah of CO; her six great-grandchildren, Kira, Ashley, Sebastian, Lukas and Bria Siminski and Mariana Fletcher; her devoted daughter-in-law, Suzanne Fletcher of Moosic; her son-in-law, Carl Siminski of FL; her brother, Richard Drag and wife Lottie Marie of FL; and nieces and nephews.
Beloved children, William Fletcher Jr. and Joyce Siminski, along with brothers, Albert and Stanley Drag, also preceded her in death.
A celebration of Irene’s life is scheduled for Saturday at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with an 11:00 AM funeral home blessing service before procession and entombment at the Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton. Family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until services.
