Andrea (Metro) Tomczyk, age 72, of the Lincoln Heights section of Taylor, passed away Thursday morning at home, after an illness. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband, John Tomczyk. Wed on May 27, 1972, the couple recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
Born in Taylor on December 5, 1950, and daughter of the late John A., Jr. and Olga (Benn) Metro, Andrea was a graduate of Riverside High School’s Class of 1968. An amazing mother, she raised her two children before working for several local supermarkets and, prior to her retirement, Bank of America in Moosic. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of Divine Mercy Parish.
Andrea was also an amazing grandmother, helping raise her five grandchildren whom all loved their grandma. She loved her vacations, cherishing traveling anywhere from Hawaii to Walt Disney World to Ocean City, Maryland, all as long as she was alongside her family.
An absolute “foodie”, Andrea was a tough pizza critic (Victory Pig was #1) who always enjoyed going out to dinner. She made the best perogies, carrying on a longtime family tradition by cooking them every Christmas Eve.
Her memories will forever remain and she’ll be dearly missed by her loved ones.
Along with John, she is also survived by her children, Paul and wife Dr. Allison Tomczyk of Scranton, and Jennifer Gronski and husband Robert of Moosic; five grandchildren whom she adored, Aidan, Carter, Jacob, Grace and Nina; three siblings, Stephen Metro of Taylor, Phyllis Surridge and husband Allen of Old Forge and Sandra Zigray and husband Robert of The Villages, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
An infant son, Stephen; and an infant brother, Andrew, III, both preceded her in death.
Her family would like thank all of Andrea’s amazing caregivers throughout her years of illness, especially Dr. Ken Sebastianelli.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 AM at Divine Mercy, 312 Davis Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis Pauselli, Pastor. Interment, private. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 4-7:00 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
Memorial contributions may be made in Andrea’s name to the American Diabetes Association c/o P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
