David (Dave) Kwiatkowski, Sr., age 70 and of Old Forge, passed away Saturday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, after an illness. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Patricia (Scaramastro) Kwiatkowski. The couple celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on June 5th.
Born on October 22, 1952, and raised in West Scranton, Dave was the son of the late Albert J. and Ann (Stankevich) Kwiatkowski. A graduate of West Scranton High School’s Class of 1970, he then studied at Johnson College.
In 1976, Dave began his own business as a general contractor. For nearly 35 years he completed countless projects throughout the area, while developing longtime friendships in customers whose trust he earned through decades of honest service. He would also worked for five years at TOPPS Co.
Dave’s humor was both unique and memorable and although his list of jokes was few, he told them well. He was a man of great character and integrity whose reputation meant a great deal to him. He would do anything for anyone in need, both selflessly and unnoticed, and he was a true champion of the underdog, never afraid to stand up for someone who couldn’t stand up for themselves. Above all else, he was a man of extraordinary faith. A faithful member of Queen of the Apostle’s Church Parish in Avoca, Dave had an unwavering devotion as a true disciple of Jesus.
His loved ones will forever miss him, but they certainly know now that he is in a better place.
He is also survived by his three sons whom carry his legacy well, David Kwiatkowski, Jr. and wife Kristi of Moosic, Jason Kwiatkowski and wife Amy of Taylor and Patrick Kwiatkowski and Jen of Old Forge; his grandchildren whom adored their “papa”, Nicholas, Matthew, Molly, Kaylee and Madilyn Kwiatkowski; his five siblings, Alan Kwiatkowski of Nicholson, Diane Staples of Dunmore, Dale Kwiatkowski and wife Bonnie of Moosic, Dennis Kwiatkowski and wife Heather of CT and Albert Kwiatkowski and Ginny Kreusling of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 AM at Queen of the Apostles, 715 Hawthorne Street in Avoca, to be celebrated by Rev. Phillip J. Sladicka, Pastor. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until Mass.
All of those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
