Alma (Reinel) Scaramastro, age 79 and a longtime resident of Moosic, passed away Friday evening at the home of her daughter after an illness.
She’s now reunited with the love of her life and her husband of 54 years, Vincent “Vince” Scaramastro, who preceded her in death on March 6, 2022.
A native of Germany, Alma was born on August 20, 1943, to the late Maria and Aldred Reinel.
Alma met Vince in Germany during Vince’s decades of military service in the U.S. Army before beginning their family and returning stateside in 1978, settling in Moosic. She had worked for Panel Prints, but her greatest job was raising her two adored daughters, MaryBeth and Karin.
Alma loved the outdoors and was an avid walker. She also adored her animals.
Above all else came her family, especially Vince. Together, they never missed an opportunity to travel and no one loved the polkas more than they did. They were Saturday night TV polka fixtures and they also loved their German music, often traveling wherever need be just to listen to German bands.
Now once again alongside Vince watching the polkas from afar, Alma’s now at peace but will forever be missed.
She is survived by her loving family, including her daughters, MaryBeth Scaramastro and fiance Louis Kohut of Scranton and Karin Benavitch and husband Michael of Dunmore; two grandchildren, Chelsea Welter and Jordan Jenkins; a sister,Waltraud “Judy” Billmeier of Germany; and nieces and nephews. Her family would like to acknowledge and thank all of Alma’s amazing caregivers, including the staff of Traditional Home Health Hospice.
Private arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with blessing services by Rev. Phil Sladicka, Pastor of Queen of the Apostles Parish in Avoca, with burial in its parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alma’s name to the St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital c/o 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Please visit the funeral home’s website to leave a condolence.
