Mary Susan “Susie” (Hyatt) DeFazio, age 65, passed away Saturday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, after an illness. On February 10, 2002, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene DeFazio.
Born in Scranton on September 6, 1957, and daughter of the late Thomas Hyatt and Marlene Mary Hyatt Snead, Susie was educated at West Scranton High School before attending beauty school.
She had moved to New Jersey with Eugene while raising her sons and working as a bank teller for several local banks. Upon retirement, she moved and resided in Ocala, Florida.
Susie was an avid reader, loved her music and a good movie, and possessed a strong faith and devotion to Jesus. Above all else came her family whom meant everything to her. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her loving family, sons Marcus Shawiak and Benjamin Shawiak; grandchildren, Zachary, Abigail, Annabeth, Alexis, Casey and Charlie; siblings, Stephen and Thomas Hyatt and Tammy Albright; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Sandie DelFino.
Private burial alongside her husband will be at Highland Memorial Park in Ocala. Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton.
