Fiore J. “Sonny” Musto, age 80 of Old Forge, passed away Wednesday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, after an illness. Sonny was born on August 25, 1942, and raised in West Scranton by the late Fleur and Rose (Cimino) Musto. Sonny was a graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1960, before attending the University of Scranton. He met, fell in love with, and married his wife Marion M. (Corradino) Musto at an early age, then shortly after marriage, the couple settled in Old Forge where they raised their three children. They enjoyed 33 years of marriage until Marions passing on September 22, 1995.
He worked for several area factories, beginning with Brooks Manufacturing in Old Forge, and retired from Compression Polymers of Moosic. Sonny certainly had a tireless work ethic from tiling and painting, to delivering newspapers for 25 years with the former Scranton Tribune. He would do whatever it took to ensure his family was comfortable. Sonny had a passion for art and enjoyed drawing and painting, leaving behind countless paintings to be treasured by his family. He never passed up a good trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino, always enjoyed fishing with family and friends, and was a die-hard fan of the PSU Nittany Lions and the Old Forge Blue Devils. Sonny was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge and also formerly served as the president of the Old Forge Missy League. Sonny lived life on his own terms and is now at peace, reunited with his beloved wife of 33 years and he will be deeply missed by his loved ones.
He is survived by his children, Jeanette Kapuscinski and husband Michael, Pamela Lia and husband Mark, and Brian Musto and wife Tracy, all of Old Forge; five grandchildren who adored their “Papa”, Michael Kapuscinski and wife Marissa, Shannon Beamesderfer and husband Phil, Melissa Kapuscinski, Dominick Lia, and Sharissa Lia; four great grandchildren, Peter, Kevin, Finn, and Arlo; a brother, Jerry Musto and wife Maryann of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
Sonny was also preceded in death by siblings, Guy Musto, Celestine Matteo, and a grandson Jack Kapuscinski. His family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Geisinger C.M.C.’s Cardiac Step-Down unit for their collective kindness and compassion while Sonny was in their care.
