Gerald (Jerry) J. Walsh entered into eternal life, on Saturday March 25th and he was surrounded by his family. Jerry was the son of the late James and Lucy (McCahill) Walsh of the Minooka section of Scranton. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sandra (Santee); his daughter, Mary Jo and husband John O’Boyle; his sons, Gerald Walsh and wife Kathleen, James Walsh and wife Leila and Robert Walsh and wife Karin; and eleven grandchildren who adored their “Pop Pop”, Jerry, Timothy, Conor, Daniel, Kevin , Taryn, Patrick, Madeleine, Nicholas, Ryan and Jack.

Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Joseph, and his siblings, Agatha, James, Clare, Anne, Lorraine, Lucille and Joan.

Jerry was a graduate of the former South Catholic High School and then proudly joined the Navy to serve his country. He was very proud of have served as a “Talkie” on the USS Providence. Following his honorable discharge from service, he began his professional work service for the US Government, serving in the U.S. Postal Service and ending his career as a Postmaster.

Jerry loved spending time with his family, enjoyed being a babysitter to his Grandchildren, was an avid golfer, he enjoyed watching sports, and loved taking vacations with Sandra and their friends. He was proud of his Irish heritage, and his Minooka up bringing and visited Ireland twice with his family.

He thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Irish American Men’s Association. He took great pride in helping to run the “Boys of Summer” Golf League.

Jerry is remembered by his family as having strength, courage and an unfailing devotion to his wife, Sandra. He took great pride in his role as devoted husband and loving father.

A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be held on Thursday beginning with a 9:30 – 11:00 AM visitation for family and friends to pay their respects at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street, West Scranton. A Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor, is set for 11:00 AM with burial and military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard to follow at the Cathedral Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Patrick’s Parade Association of Lackawanna County for the support of their Toys for Tots annual drive. c/o P.O. Box 25, Scranton, PA 18501.
