Dorothy (Early) Pon of Taylor passed away Wednesday morning at home after an illness. She was 76 years old. On August 3, 1997, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter Pon.
Born on July 24, 1946 and daughter of the late Donald and Dorothy (Windsor) Early, Dorothy was a 1965 graduate of Lindenhurst High School, Long Island, N.Y. Upon raising her family in Mastic Beach, N.Y., she worked as a technician for several electrical companies before retiring as a clerk for the United States Postal Service.
After her retirement and settling locally, she became one of the Taylor Walmart’s first employees, a job she enjoyed and worked at until becoming ill.
Dorothy was a doll collecting fanatic, especially Shirley Temple dolls. She loved her Hallmark and HGTV, and on Wednesday QVC lost one of its all-time best customers.
Above all else came Dorothy’s family. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her loving family including her children, Peter Brian Pon and wife Debra of Taylor, James Robert Pon of Old Forge and Kimberly Ann Pon of Reno, NV; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Donna Porzio and husband Ken of VA, Doreen Early of VA and Denise Reilly and husband Thomas of FL; and nieces and nephews.
Dorothy’s family will forever be grateful to the entire staff of Compassionate Hospice Care as well as her devoted daughter-in-law, Debra, daughter, Kimberly Pon and granddaughter, Kimberley, for the care and love given to Dorothy throughout her illness.
A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life is scheduled for Friday, March 24th, between 4-7:00 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to the American Cancer Society c/o P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
