Margaret (Knecht) Wolak, a longtime Old Forge resident and formerly of The Villages, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning in Wilkes Barre. She was 96 years young.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, George A. Wolak, on May 1, 2004.
Born in Dupont on September 28, 1926, and daughter of the late Joseph and Edith (Dolman) Knecht, Margaret was educated at the former Dupont High School. A lifelong seamstress, she retired after several decades of work from the Laura Fashions in Pittston.
Margaret loved traveling. With her huband by her side, she had been everywhere from Europe to Lancaster on bus trips to, one of her favorite spots, Hawaii. Some of her fondest memories came while as a snow bird in Florida.
An amazing cook, her pizza and potato pancakes were unforgettable. She had a strong faith in Jesus, an awesome sense of humor and, above all else, an adoring love for her family who will miss her deeply.
She is survived by loving family, including her son Robert (Bob) Wolak and wife Diana of Plantation, FL; her grandchildren, Robert J., George, Jason and Michael Wolak; great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, George J. Wolak; three grandchildren, Beatrice “Peachie” Wolak, Patrick Wolak and Marybeth “Pumpkin” Cruser; and, the last of her Knecht siblings, an infant Edward and William Knecht and Doris Ceselesky.
Her son and daughter-in-law will be forever grateful to the Charles Cary family for the unconditional love and care bestowed upon Margaret after her return home.
Funeral services by Pastor Rev. Ginger Daubenhauser are scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Burial will follow at Marcy Cemetery in Duryea. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 4-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Margaret’s name to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation c/o 3329 Johnson St, Hollywood, FL 33021.
