Martha A. (Evans) Jones, age 89 and a longtime Clarks Summit resident, passed away Friday at Allied Hospice in Scranton, after an illness. The love of her life and husband of 69 years, Daniel (Dan) Jones, preceded her in death on May 2, 2022. Fittingly, they’re now reunited.
Born in Scranton on February 18, 1933, daughter of the late William and Mary (Jeffreys) Evans, Martha was a 1950 graduate of West Scranton High School.
Along with raising her sons, Martha worked as office manager, assistant treasurer and ultimately a loan officer for The Scranton Times Credit Union for 28 years prior to her retirement.
Deeply devoted and faithful, she was a lifelong member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church in West Scranton, where she was active in all church capacities throughout the decades. She spent her winters with Dan at their house in Ruskin, Florida, while creating some of her happiest memories as a snow bird. Above all came her family whom she absolutely adored. She’ll forever be loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Bill Jones and wife, Kimberly of Millersville, Md., and Jack Jones and companion, Robin Martin of Lederach; three grandchildren, Daniel, William “Wijy” and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Eli, Trevor, Scarlett and Cillian; a brother, Thomas Evans and wife Ruth of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews. Siblings, David and William Evans, Jr. also preceded her in death.
A blessing service by Rev. Elliott Cooke, Pastor of the Jackson Street Baptist Church, is scheduled for Monday, February 20th, at 10 a.m. at the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Burial will follow services at Shady Lane Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, February 19, between 4 and 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
