Hope V. (Webb) McCracken, 99 years young and a lifelong resident of the Rocky Glen section of Moosic, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday. On October 4, 1999, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sylvester H. McCracken.
Born on July 6, 1923, Hope was the daughter of the late Oscar, Sr. and Ethel (Seig) Webb. She attended the former Moosic High School before beginning her family. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an executive housekeeper at several local hotels and medical offices.
Recently acknowledged as the oldest living member of the Moosic Alliance Community Church, Hope was a pillar and lifelong part of the church’s congregation. Throughout her life she served in all capacities, from fundraising volunteer to Sunday School teacher. Her impact was immeasurable and she’ll never be forgotten.
Her humor was unforgettable and nearly everyone who knew her had his/her own comical Hope story. Along with her deep faith came her love for her family, she passed at peace knowing her legacy is in good hands with four surviving generations.
She is survived by her loving family, including her two adoring daughters, Dawn McCracken and Joyce Quinn, both of Moosic; three grandchildren, Phil Quinn and wife Liz, Sean Quinn and wife Jude Mary and Shannon Thiel and husband Paul; four great grandchildren, Shayne O’Malley and wife Katie, Seth Wagner, Michael John Quinn and Selena Quinn; a great grandson, Asher O’Malley; sisters, Ann Webb of Moosic, Ruth Gensel of Chester and Janice Mackes and husband Robert of VA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her six brothers, Leonard, Robert, Philip, David, William and Oscar Webb, Jr.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank all of Hope’s amazing caregivers over the years.
