Margaret Mary “Tootsie” Kennedy, age 79 and a lifelong West Scranton resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday at Elan Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton, after an illess.
Born on November 9, 1943 and daughter of the late William A. and Mary L. (Carey) Kennedy, Tootsie was a graduate of the former St. Patrick’s High School. For nearly two decades, she was a familiar face as a sales clerk for The Globe Store of downtown Scranton.
Honest, kind, caring, selfless and generous are only a few of the countless amazing qualities Toostie possessed. She led a pure life of devotion to both her church and to her family.
Adored by her loved ones, especially her sisters, nieces and nephews, she will forever be missed.
Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of St. David’s Parish, prior to it closure, and now a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in West Scranton.
She is survived by her beloved family including her sisters, Mary Ellen Kernich and husband Ron of Old Forge and Nancy Burne and husband James of Perkasie; and her nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were siblings, Thomas Kennedy and his wife Marion, Joseph Kennedy and his wife Helen; two infant brothers; and her nephew, Steven Burne and niece, Ann Burne.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Wednesday at 10:15 AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street, Scranton. Burial will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
