Gerard P. McHugh, 72, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Saturday afternoon at Regional Hospital of Scranton.

Born January 6, 1950 in Scranton, son of the late John J. and Marie Constance McCulligan McHugh, Jerry was educated in Holy Rosary Elementary and North Scranton Junior High School. Jerry worked as a truck driver and also at Kelleher Tire, prior to his disability. He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, North Scranton where he served as altar boy in his youth.

Jerry was one of a kind who treasured spending time with his family. He and his partner in crime, his brother, Eddie, were a pair that a full house couldn’t beat. They were extremely close and became inseparable the last few years, He enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to Rock 107, watching Two and Half men, and attending concerts with his brother. Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of the ICU unit of Regional hospital of Scranton for the care and compassion they gave to Jerry and his family during his time in the unit.

Surviving are a brother, Edward W. McHugh, with whom he resided; nieces Alyssa and Meghan, and nephew, Michael; great nieces, Emilia, Lilah, and Isabella; and great nephew, Mason; and his four legged friend, Zoey.

A brother, Jackie McHugh and nephew, J.J. preceded him in death.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday at 10 AM in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William Street, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 9 AM until the time of the service in the church.
