Janice M. Assaf, age 75 and a lifelong resident of Moosic, passed away Monday at Guardian Healthcare Center in Taylor, after a recent illness.
Born on May 7, 1947, and daughter of the late Mitchell and Minerva (Habeeb) Assaf, Janice was a graduate of Riverside High School before earning her Bachelors of Art Degree from Lackawanna College. She worked as an administrator for Kay Wholesale Drug and Lackawanna Longterm Care Facility, prior to her retirement.
Janice always enjoyed a stop at the Mohegan Sun, and her family will never forget her homemade Baklava recipe. She was a loving sister and aunt who will long be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her siblings, Frank Assaf, with whom she resided, David Assaf and wife Mariella of Pompano Beach, FL., and Evonne Lausier and husband Gary of Kansas City, KS; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Navich, on April 12, 2019.
Her family would like to thank both staffs of Guardian Healthcare Center and also Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the exceptional care given to Janice during her illness.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Melkite Greek Catholic Church, 130 N. Francis Cabrini Ave., West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Christopher Manuele, Pastor. Private burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday at the church from 10-11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Janice’s name to the St. Joseph Melkite Greek Catholic Church c/o 130 St Frances Cabrini Ave, Scranton, PA 18504.
