Meredith (Morris) Mead, of Saylorsburg and a Peckville native, passed away Friday at home. She was 47 years young.
She is survived by the loves of her life, her husband David Mead, with whom she celebrated a 20th anniversary on October 5th; and her daughters of whom she was so proud, Dana Mead, currently in the Physician’s Assistant program at DeSales University and Danica Mead, a National Honor Society Inductee and ballet dancer set to perform with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in December.
Born on July 4, 1975, and raised in Peckville, Meredith was the daughter of the late David N. “Trooper” Morris, Sr. and the late Carol (Meranti) Morris Shamonsky. A 1993 graduate of Valley View High School where she was named Miss Cougar, she then earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.
She worked as a pharmacist for Walmart, between both Delaware and Pennsylvania, before spending the past 17 years as a home pharmacist for CVS/Caremark Mail Services Pharmacy.
Meredith’s work ethic was tireless, all the while being an amazing Mom and wife. She was active and involved in her daughters’ activities, from Dana’s competitive cheerleading to Danica’s dancing. She loved camping with family and the extended family of friends she met along the way. A lifelong dog lover, she adored her pups, “Ranger” and Phoebe”, and she was an attendee at the Effort United Methodist Church.
Completely selfless, Meredith would do anything for anyone in need. She had a heart of gold and undoubtedly left an impact on anyone she met. Passing unexpectedly, she will never be forgotten.
Along with David, Dana and Danica, she is also survived by her half brothers, Timothy Morris of Moosic and David Morris, Jr. and wife Jodi of Ocean Springs, MS; her aunts, Gloria Meranti of Throop and Michele Garcia and husband James of SC; her mother-in-law, June Cole and father-in-law Clarence Cole of Madisonville; three brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law and nieces and nephews.
A step-father, William (Bill) Shamonsky, and most recently, a grandmother, Grace Fratamico, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services are set to be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. David Felker. Burial will follow in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 4-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Meredith’s name to either the Gift of Life Donor Program c/o 401 North 3rd St. Philadelphia, PA 19123 or to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter c/o 967 Griffin Pond Rd, South Abington Township, PA 18411 or your local animal shelter/rescue.
