Elizabeth Ann (Lynott) Morrison, age 91 and a lifelong resident of West Scranton, passed away Friday at Allied Hospice in Scranton, after an illness.
Daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Loftus Lynott, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Michael Morrison, on February 28, 1997.
A graduate of the former St. Patrick’s High School, Class of 1948, she was also a lifelong and faithful member of St. Patrick’s Church Parish as well.
Above all, Ann was a devoted homemaker. She was known for her excellent cooking and baking talents, especially for her homemade apple pie and chocolate cake. She was a strong and devoted matriarch and positive role model to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, to whom she was fondly known as ‘Greats’.
She also enjoyed working for the Diocese of Scranton for 20 years where she developed several lasting friendships.
She was a crossword puzzle wizard, always completing the daily puzzle. She was also a highly skilled and faithful Jeopardy enthusiast. You always knew where to find her every night at 7:30 PM (you certainly knew better than to call her at that time).
Her favorite pastime was watching classic movies on TCM. She was blessed with intelligence, a sharp sense of humor and a stunning natural beauty. She was proud to be Irish and was a loyal Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan.
She was kind and generous and showed unconditional love, as she opened her home to family and friends while she genuinely enjoyed their company. Her family loved her dearly and will miss her tremendously. Her passing is a great loss to her family and friends.
She is survived by six children, Mary Ann Biel, husband Paul, Michael Morrison, Jr., John Morrison and wife Susan, Elizabeth (Betsy) Thomas, all of Scranton, Patricia Savitts and husband Walter, Clarks Summit and Maureen (Reenie) O’Connor and Husband Martin, Jessup; grandchildren, Martin Biel, Eileen Biel, Marie Biel (Daniel Colangelo), Patrick DeSarno, Lucy DeSarno Young (Shayne), Michael DeSarno (Emily), Angelo DeSarno (Ros Hood), Sean Morrison, Richard Morrison, Rowland Morrison and Kristyn (Julian) Sparacino; great grandchildren, Lian, AJ and Adam Hufford, Collin and Conor Colangelo, Benjamin Biel, Phillip, Millie and Neyland DeSarno, Shayne Young and Brenna Sparacino; and numerous nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Jean Huweart Lynott of Aston. She is also survived by her longtime friends, Jim and Dolores Maguire of Belfast, Northern Ireland.
In addition to her Husband Michael, she was preceded in death by her Son Joseph Morrison, sister Mary Calpin and brother-in-law Cyril, sister Joan Cerra and brother-in-law Anthony, Brother Richard Lynott, Son-in-Law Paul Thomas and Kathleen Gallagher.
Her family wishes to acknowledge and thank the nurses and doctors at Geisinger Community Medical Center and Allied Services Hospice Center for their outstanding care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Saint Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Burial will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery in West Scranton.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until Mass. Those wishing to attend Elizabeth’s funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton.
