Louis (Lou) Dominic Astolfi, age 77, of Roaring Brook Twp. and formerly of Old Forge, passed away Saturday evening at home. On July 19, 2003, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Ellen J. (Killino) Astolfi.
Born in Old Forge on July 19, 1945, he was the son of the late Louis D., Sr. and Clara “Fifi” (Calibani) Astolfi. A graduate of Old Forge High School where he was a football standout, he then attended The George Washington University. A four-year letterman and varsity football captain prior to earning his Bachelor’s degree in education, he also earned a Masters degree in education from G.W.U. as well. His love for playing football extended beyond his college days having played several years of semi-professional football.
He briefly taught at Thomas Jefferson High School before returning home to his alma mater, Old Forge H.S., where he became a staple in the faculty as the Phys ed. teacher for several decades. Prior to his retirement from teaching, he earned his insurance brokers license while running his own agency in Old Forge.
Lou certainly lived a good life. He was a boat owner docked at Lake Wallenpaupack for nearly forty years. He was a muscle car fan, especially Mustangs, having long owned a vintage Shelby which he recently restored. He used to ride motorcycles, enjoyed both water and slope skiing, and was even a former coach for OFHS.
To know Lou was to love him. Passingly away peacefully, he’ll never be forgotten.
He is survived by his family to whom he was so proud; his son, Louis Astolfi and wife Amanda of Chatham, N.J.; his grandsons, Jack and Hudson Astolfi; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
His brother, James Astolfi, also preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made in Louis’ name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation c/o 13770 Noel Road, Suite 801889.
Private entombment arrangements at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp., are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
