Esther (Hahn) Thiel, age 91 and a longtime Moosic resident, passed away Saturday evening at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton. She was preceded in death on January 17, 1999, by her husband of 49 years, John R. Thiel.
Born in Noxen on September 5, 1931, and daughter of the late Thomas and Cleeta (Schenck) Hahn, Esther was a graduate of the former Moosic High School. For more than twenty years prior to her retirement, she worked for Kay’s Fashions in Duryea. She was also a longtime member of the Moosic United Methodist Church.
Esther was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her loving family including her loving children and caregivers; John T. Thiel and wife Patricia of Kingston and Marjorie Sledgeski and husband Joseph of Moosic; her son-in-law, Charles Austin of FL.; her nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; her three sisters, Margaret Bulford of Old Forge, Eleanor Homschek of Scranton and Audrey McCawley and husband Donald of Pittston; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diana (Thiel) Austin; five brothers, Wesley, David, Harold, Richard and Thomas Hahn; two sisters, Jean Martin and Naomi Crawn; and a grandson, Conrad Thiel.
Private funeral services will be from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora, Pastor of the Moosic United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp.
Esther’s family is truly thankful and grateful for the loving and compassionate care she received from Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the past six years.
