Joseph (Joe) Dewey Burnett, of Scott Twp., passed away Thursday at Geisinger C.M.C. in Scranton after an illness. He was 47 years young.
Born on August 7, 1975, Joe was the beloved son of Anna (Caswell) Burnett of Scranton and the late Edward Burnett. He was raised in Far Rockaway, New York, where he had also attended school.
He attended The Arc of NEPA’s day program five days a week, while forging a special bond and deep friendships with those around him. He loved going out to eat, always enjoyed being close to the beach, and was happy simply relaxing in his bedroom or spending time with his housemates and staff. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his adoring mother, Anna, during her weekly visits.
Joe’s love certainly shined through his warm smile and beautiful eyes. He was a special man who will never be forgotten by all of those whose lives he touched.
Along with his mother, he is also survived by his siblings, John Burnett of Scranton and Darcy Burnett of New York.
His family would like to acknowledge and thank Joe’s extended family at The Arc of NEPA for the wonderful care he received throughout the years.
Joe’s Life will be celebrated on Tuesday with funeral services beginning at 11:30 AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 1403 Jackson Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Burial will follow at Valley View Memorial Park in Scott Twp.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday between 10 – 1130 AM.
