Thomas (Tom) Joseph Walsh, age 96, of West Scranton, passed away Thursday morning at home after an illness. On October 5, 2007, Thomas was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Ann Marie “Nance” (Scanlon) Walsh.
A lifelong resident of Scranton, Thomas was born on August 31, 1925, to parents, the late Edward and Clare (McNally) Walsh. He was a graduate of the former St. Patrick’s High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he eventually returned home, married and began raising a family in West Scranton. For over 30 years prior to his retirement, Thomas was employed as a production worker for Anemostat Products in Scranton.
The fixer of everything, he was always the go-to handyman for everyone in his family. He was a proud gardener, especially of his vegetables, and as a lifelong sports fan, he enjoyed nothing more than watching his Pittsburgh Steelers, Boston Red Sox and Celtics and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
He was an adoring grandpa and great grandpa and an amazing Dad who’ll forever be loved by his family.
Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church Parish.
He is survived by his loving family, children, Mary Ann Terry of Scranton, Patricia Kelly of Weatherly, Kathleen Moroski and husband Tom of Moosic and Kevin Walsh of Scranton; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Walsh of Roaring Brook Twp.; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Ryan, Sarah, Colleen, Christopher, Maura and Brett; nine great grandchildren, Aidan, Bridget, Luciano, Gaetano, Alessio, Domenico, Caleb, Chloe and Carter.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Walsh; infants Thomas and Nance Walsh; and sons-in-law, Neil Terry and Kevin Kelly.
His family would like to acknowledge and thank the staffs of Dr. Paul Remick’s office and Allied Home Hospice for their collective care and compassion throughout Thomas’ illness.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9:15 AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 1403 Jackson Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Burial with military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Thomas’ name to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter c/o 967 Griffin Pond Rd, South Abington Township, PA 18411.
