Kelly Egan Mullen, of West Scranton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. He was 31 years old.
Born in Scranton on March 25, 1991, Kelly was the beloved son of Jo Ann (Egan) Van Fleet of Scranton and the late Thomas Kelly Mullen and the beloved grandson of Donald G. and Rose Egan of Scranton. He was a graduate of both North Pocono High School and Lackawanna College and attended Penn State University.
Kelly was a sous chef in several local restaurants including Harvest Grill and Market Street Grill. A lifelong sports fan, he loved playing basketball and was a die-hard fan of both the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He never missed an opportunity to catch a Dave Mathews Band concert and he also loved watching movies and relaxing at his pool. All who loved him will forever miss his kind heart and giving nature.
He is also survived by his cousins, Patrick, Genevieve, Christopher, Sabrina, Shannon, Kerry and Billy; aunts and uncles, godmother Sharon Kirby, Jack Kirby, godfather D.G. Egan, Nuzhat Egan, Tim Egan and Julie Egan; and cousins and countless friends.
An animal lover, he is also survived by his adored pups, Koda, Kash, Ella and Ike whom he loved beyond words.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin on Monday at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 1605 Oram Street in West Scranton, with burial to follow at Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until Mass. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
The kindest of souls, Kelly gave unselfishly to all who knew him. He final act of kindness came in giving the gift of life as he donated his organs to make life possible for many others. Kelly will be dearly missed but will certainly live on through the hearts of all who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kelly’s name to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter c/o 967 Griffin Pond Rd, South Abington Township, PA 18411. Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton.
