Dominic (Dom) G. Toraldo of Old Forge, passed away Thursday, June 23, at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones. Dom was 51 years young.
Born on March 24, 1971, a loving son of Patricia (Chelland) Toraldo of Old Forge and the late Gaetano “Guy” B. Toraldo, Dom was raised in Old Forge before graduating from Old Forge High School, class of 1989. Dom then earned his bachelor’s degree in social work from Misericordia University. He furthered his studies ultimately earning two separate master’s degrees in social work and counseling.
Dom worked as a counselor at several counseling centers and a seven year stint at USP Allenwood in Union County as a corrections officer. More recently he worked for Catholic Social Services at St. Francis Commons where he was able to help homeless veterans rehabilitate their lives and at New Story Special Education Schools where he was able to positively influence countless people along his journey.
Despite the unimaginable loss Dom’s loved ones are enduring, they’ll continue to live their lives to the fullest, spreading love and serving others — exactly as Dom did. Dom’s warm smile and engaging personality made it easy to understand why to know Dom was to love him.
The focal point of Dom’s life was his family. He was an adoring son, beloved brother and adoring father who would want nothing more than for his three children to know that their Dad will always love them, be proud of them and will always be watching over them from afar. He will forever be missed.
He is also survived by his three children, Abagayle Toraldo, Isabella Toraldo and Gaetano Toraldo, all of Old Forge; a stepson, Nick Martoccio, of Old Forge; sisters, Cristina Toraldo and Catherine Toraldo, both of Old Forge; aunts, godmother Cathy Chelland, of Dunmore; and Judy Toraldo, of Clarks Summit; an uncle, Paul Toraldo and wife, Mary, of Maryland; and many cousins, extended family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph “Bro” and Jean (Quinn) Chelland; and paternal grandparents, Dominic and Anne (Gaffney) Toraldo.
His family would like to express its gratitude to the amazing staff of Geisinger CMC’s ICU for their care and compassion throughout Dom’s stay.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin Thursday at 8:15 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity of Our Lord Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea, to be celebrated by the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge. Family and friends may pay their respects Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dom’s name to the Saint Francis Commons, c/o 504 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
