Sandra (Nero) Hicks, age 72, of Lenoxville, passed away Wednesday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton, after an illness. She is survived by her loving husband and caregiver, Robert (Bob) Hicks.
Born in Philadelphia on August 27, 1949, Sandra was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Adelaide Nero. She began her career in law enforcement as an officer for the Philadelphia Police Department. As fate would have it, Sandra would meet Bob on the force, ultimately becoming partners. Upon marriage and raising her family, Sandra also worked for Packaging Coordinators in Philadelphia. After a brief stay in St. Ignatius, Montana, where Bob served as police chief, the couple would relocate to West Scranton in 1995. They then moved to Lenoxville where they lived for over 25 years. Prior to her retirement, Sandra worked for Scranton Counseling Center.
A Philly native, she was a die hard fan of the Eagles, and she always enjoyed her crossword puzzles. Above all else came her family. She was adored by her loved ones and will forever be missed.
She is survived by her loving family including her children, Thomas McFarlane and husband Terry Outz of N.J., Janet Rush and husband Brian of N.J., Tara Quigley of Philadelphia, Christina Hicks of Shamokin and Joseph Hicks and wife Devora of Hatboro; 14 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Karasek and husband Alex of N.J. and Nicole Nero of Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews. A son, Robert Hicks, also preceded her in death.
Blessing services are scheduled for Monday at 1:00 PM in the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with burial to follow at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton. Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 10 AM until services at the funeral.
