William Peter “Pete” Shebaugh, age 85, a longtime resident of Taylor, passed away Friday morning after an illness. Pete was preceded in death on February 6, 2011, by his beloved wife of 40 years, Marie (Phillips) Shebaugh.
Born on August 23, 1936 and raised in Gouldsboro, Pete was the son of the late George and Mary (Zara) Shebaugh and a Taylor High School graduate. Before his retirement, he was a skilled self-employed photographer. A faithful Roman Catholic, he was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge, specifically St. Lawrence O’Toole Church prior to its closure, and he was also a member of the UNICO National Scranton Chapter. To know Pete was to love him. His smile memorable, he will forever be missed.
He is survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his only son, Charles Shebaugh, on February 22, 2015; and a brother John “Jake” Shebaugh of Blakely.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor, with burial to follow. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 9 – 10:00 AM at the church. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pete’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital c/o 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
