Michael C. Maguire, 81, a resident of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center and formerly of South Scranton, died Saturday evening at the Center. His wife of 47 years was the former Alice Marie Toraldo, who died June 1, 2013.
Born August 5, 1940 in Carbondale, son of the late Charles and Vivian Kiernan Maguire, Michael was a 1958 graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Michael worked his entire career with Chamberlain Manufacturing where he retired as an Inspector. A member of Nativity of Our Lord Church at St. John Neumann Parish, Michael was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus North Pocono Council #6050, Moscow. Very active with Little League Baseball, especially while his boys played, Michael was a coach and served as President of the Green Ridge Little League, and also Assistant Administrator with District 17.
Surviving are his sons, Michael Maguire, and wife, Erin, Scranton, Mark Maguire, Scranton, Christopher Maguire and wife, Maria, Spring Brook Twp., and Paul Maguire, and wife, Marisa, Old Forge; 7 grandchildren, Michael, Brian and wife, Maggie, Megan, Lauren, Aidan, Seamus, and Allison Maguire; two brothers, Thomas Maguire, and wife, Allison, Orlando, Fl, and Robert Maguire, Carbondale; several nieces and nephews
An infant granddaughter, Anna Grace Maguire, preceded him in death.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart. You were truly angels in human form and your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
Funeral Services are scheduled to begin Saturday at 8:45 AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. John Neumann Parish, 633 Orchard St, Scranton. Entombment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Relatives and Friends may pay their respects on Friday from 4 – 7 PM in the funeral home.
