James (Jimmy) Rory McLaughlin, age 69, of Scranton and formerly of Arlington, VA., passed away unexpectedly on Thursday.
A Scranton native, Jim was born on April 13, 1953, to the late James and June (Fallon) McLaughlin. A graduate of the former South Scranton Catholic High School, he then proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Following thirty years of military service, he would be honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. He lived in Arlington, Virginia, for over 35 years, working for Virginia Electric (Dominion Energy) prior to his retirement.
Jimmy was a proud veteran of the USAF. He adored his friends and his family, especially his son, and although gone too soon, he’s certainly at peace. He’ll be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving family, including his son, Seamus McLaughlin of SC; his sisters, Colleen Dodgson and husband Donald of Dunmore and Maureen Moylan and husband Peter of Clarks Summit; nieces and nephews, Sarah Dodgson, Maureen Donahue and husband Jerry, Peter Moylan and wife Renee, Kate Boland and husband Kevin, Kevin Moylan, Robert Duffy and wife Dina and Brendan Duffy and wife Tricia; and countless lifelong friends.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara (June) Duffy and husband Bob.
His family would like to thank Jim’s amazingly loyal friends of Arlington, The Lofts at the Mill (where Jim had recently resided) and from Scranton, for always being there for him.
Funeral services are set to begin on Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Neumann Parish, 633 Orchard St, Scranton, to be celebrated by Msgr. Joseph Quinn, Pastor. Burial with military honors by the Simpson Honor Guard Post 4712 will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 8:00 – 9:00 AM at the funeral home where masks are expected to be worn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project at 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256.
Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton.
