Richard R. Burns, 76, a longtime resident of Madison Township, died Wednesday afternoon surrounded by his loving family. His wife of 43 years is the former Colleen Walsh.

Born October 3, 1945 in Scranton, son of the late Robert and Mary Kapacs Burns, Richard was educated in Scranton schools. A Veteran of the Vietnam War, Richard proudly served with the United States Marine Corp. He worked for a time at Tobyhanna Army Depot, and prior to his retirement, was employed by the ScrantonTimes in maintenance. Richard was of the catholic faith and a longtime member of Schiller Lodge #345, Free and Accepted Masons.

Richard was an avid fisherman who loved spending time with his grandchildren. A life member of Peckville Veterans of Foreign War Shopa-Davey Post 6082, Peckville, Richard enjoyed spending time with his friends and comrades at the post. He left a lasting impression on so many lives and will not soon be forgotten.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses of the Allied Hospice Homehealth. You were angels in human form and your kindness and compassion to Richard will always be remembered.

Surviving are a son, Kevin Burns, Madison Twp; daughters, Kelly West, Clarks Summit, and Carrie Simpson, and husband, Russell, Utah; 8 grandchildren; a great grandson; a brother, Robert Burns; and nieces and nephews.

A son, Richard D. Burns, granddaughter, Sarah Burns, and a brother, Joseph Burns also preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Richard’s Life with Military Honors will be held at a later date at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Shopa-Davey Post 6082, Peckville.

Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St, Old Forge.
