Daniel (Dan) Jones, age 89 of Clarks Summit, passed away Monday at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton, after an illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Martha (Evans) Jones. Wed on April 10, 1953, the couple recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Born in Scranton on January 11, 1933, Dan was the son of the late William and Mary (Roche) Jones. He was a 1950 graduate of West Scranton High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
An electrician by trade, Dan was a longtime employee of Thompson Electronics in Scranton prior to his retirement.
Dan stayed fit, regularly working out at the gym and exercising. He loved spending winters in Ruskin, Florida, and was an active life member of the V.F.W. Post #7069 in Clarks Summit. He was also a longtime member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church.
To know Dan was to love him. He will certainly be missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Bill Jones and wife Kimberly of Millersville, MD, and Jack Jones and companion Robin Martin of Lederach; three grandchildren, Daniel, William “Wijy” and Sarah; three great grandchildren and one on the way; a sister, Ann Canterbury and husband Ralph of Pittsburgh; and nieces and nephews.
Also preceding Dan in death was a sister, Mary Kozak.
A blessing service by Rev. Elliott Cooke is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th, at 10:00 AM at the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Burial with military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at Shady Lane Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, May 13th, between 4-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
