Richard P. Chofey, Sr., 72, of Taylor and formerly of Tobyhanna, died Tuesday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife is the former Barbara Thomas. They celebrated thier 54th wedding anniversary on January 5th.

Born May 8, 1949 in Scranton, son of the late Alice Wojewodski Klas and Peter T. Chofey, he was a graduate of Tobyhanna schools and attended Penn State Worthington and Bell and Howell Trade School. Rich was employed by Fox 56 and Channel 22 as Chief Engineer and Transmitting Engineer prior to his retirement. He then worked part time as a driver for NCS. Rich was a member of the Villa Capri Cruisers. Of the catholic faith, he was a former member of St. Mary’s Church, Avoca.

A true family man, Rich adored his 3 grandchildren. A pizza connoisseur, he enjoyed time with his family and good friends. But his true love was anything with four wheels, especially his Fiero and Mustang Cobra. Gone way too soon, he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are:his son, Richard P. Chofey, Jr., and wife, Emelita, Taylor; a daughter, Keri Best, and husband, Ed, Clarks Summit; Grandchildren, Lauren Best, and Cheyenne and Shelby Chofey; a brother, David Chofey, Scranton, a sister, Audrey Granahan, Palm Bay, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Rich’s Life will be held on Friday at 6 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N Main St., Old Forge, with Rev. Michael Bryant, officiating. Relative and friends may call from 5 – 7 PM in the funeral home.
