Patricia (Hart) Straub, age 74, a lifelong resident of the Bunker Hill section of Scranton, passed away Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, after a courageous battle with illness.
Born on October 12, 1947, and daughter of the late James Hart and Theresa (Nocella) Conforti Hart Mistretta, Patricia was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School. Upon working in several local factories, she took on the full-time job of raising her children.
To know Patricia was to love her. She wore a perpetual smile, and her kindness and selflessness touched the lives of countless. She volunteered for several causes and was the former president of the Eagles Club.
She was proud, independent and certainly lived life by her own terms. Her humor and wit will never be forgotten and she always enjoyed cooking and sewing. Now at peace, she’ll forever be missed.
A devoted Roman Catholic, she was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in Scranton.
She is survived by her loving family, including daughter and best friend, Lisa Burkhart of Old Forge; son, Kevin Straub and Martina of Scranton; four adored grandchildren, Nichole, Cassidy and Jake Burkhart and Morghan Straub; nieces and nephews; and her kitty, “Ebony”. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Burkhart; and a brother, Vincent Conforti.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Monday at 9:30 AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 801 Taylor Avenue, Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Patrick J. McLaughlin, Pastor. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 4-7:00 PM at the funeral home. In accordance with Patricia’s wishes to celebrate her life, please wear purple and/or bright colors.
