Byron T. Webb, Sr., age 82, of Waymart and formerly of Scranton, passed away Friday morning at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Patricia (Gilhooley) Webb, on May 31, 2006.
Born on March 25, 1940, he was the son of the late William and Katey (Shotwell) Webb. Early on, Byron worked as a heavy equipment operator. Prior to retirement, he was employed for 20 plus years by NEPA Carton Co. He possessed an amazing work ethic, gaining the respect of the owners and all of his co-workers whom he always considered extended family.
Simply put, family was Byron’s life. A lifelong outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and camping but it was fishing that meant the most to him as he taught each generation of his family how to fish. He loved stock car races and demolition derbies, but it is his kindness and generosity that’ll certainly never be forgotten.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Capwell and husband Ray of Pittston, Byron T. Webb, Jr. of Cherry Ridge and Martin Webb and wife Laurie of WI; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; step-sister, Lizzy Rodney Edwards; sister-in-law, Wilma Webb; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his children, Samuel, Joseph and infant Maryann Webb; a great grandson, Joey; his step-father, James B. Rodney; and siblings, Thomas, Freeman and Silas Webb, Olive Robbins, Kathleen Rodney and Hannah Edwards.
A blessing service by Rev. Dr, Michael Shambora is scheduled for Thursday at 7:00 PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 5:00 PM until services.
