Kathryn A. Gray, LPN, age 82, of Old Forge, passed away Monday at Guardian Healthcare Center in Taylor. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 33 years, Wayne V. Gray, Jr., on December 14, 1993.
Born in West Scranton on July 23, 1939, and daughter of the late Giuseppe “Pep” and Florence (Tenelli) Riviello, Kathryn was a graduate of Old Forge High School. Upon graduation from nursing school, she briefly served as a nurse for the Jewish Community Center. She then began her career with the Topps Co., first in working Duryea before retiring from the Scranton factory, after 50 years of dedicated service.
Certainly active and on the go, Kathryn always enjoyed her work-outs with the gals at Anytime Fitness, prior to its closure. She never met a slot machine she didn’t like and she held so many fond memories of family card games throughout the years.
Of devoted Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, prior to its closure, and now belonged to the Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge. Passing suddenly, she’ll be forever missed by her adoring family.
She is survived by her three loving children, Virginia Zalakar and husband Joseph of York, Michael Gray and wife Melanie of Taylor and Debbie Ferack of Duryea; six grandchildren, Laura Wagner and husband Jason, Angela McKenzie and husband Matt, Michael Zalakar and wife Lydia, Jessica Evarts and husband George, Mallory and Mitchell Gray; three great grandchildren; her sister, Virginia Panko of Old Forge; and many nieces and nephews.
Brothers, Patrick Perfilio and Joseph Riviello, also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to thank the entire staff of Guardian Healthcare Center in Taylor for their collective care and kindness.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Saturday at 8:45 AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge, with a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, in Old Forge to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Burial will follow at Old Forge Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 4-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
