Ethel “Betty” L. (Andrews) Bastis, age 94, a nearly lifelong resident of Wyoming, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon at Allied Hospice – Wilkes Barre. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Bastis, on July 18, 1981.
Born in Wyoming on September 14, 1927, Betty was the daughter of the late Charles and Hazel (Totten) Andrews. After finishing school, Betty began a career as a seamtress in the local garment industry, beginning with the Pittston Apparel Co. She was a also a member of the I.L.G.W.U.
Possessing an extremely dedicated work ethic her entire life, she was also a fixture in the kitchen of Marianacci’s Restaurant for over 20 years until her retirement at 80 years young.
The matriarch of her family, Betty ensured her family was together for every holiday at her home. She specialized in holiday decorations and baking/cooking. Her legacy will now long live on with her traditions now being carried on by her beloved family. She’ll be forever missed.
She is survived by loving family, including her daughter and son-in-law, caregivers and with whom Betty recently lived, June and Robert Peron of Shavertown; her son, Thomas Bastis and wife Elizabeth Ann “Zan” of Santa Monica, CA.; her daughter-in-law, Delphine Bastis of Wyoming; her grandchildren, Kimberly Kenehan and husband Marty, Bobby Peron and Claire Beasley and husband Tyler; great grandchildren, Olivia and Ella Kenehan and William Grayson Beasley; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, David P. Bastis, on October 17, 2020; and siblings, Carl, Robert, Donald and Thomas Andrews and Dorothy Marquitz, as Betty was the last surviving of the six Andrews brothers and sisters.
Her family would like to thank the entire staff of both Allied Home and Inpatient Hospice Services for their care, kindness and compassion bestowed to both Betty and her family.
Blessing services are scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. Ginger Daubenhauser. Interment will follow in the Wyoming Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 10:00 AM until services at the funeral home.
