Robert (Bob) Kozloski, Sr., age 85, a lifelong West Scranton resident, passed away at the home of his daughter on Wednesday evening, after an illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Joan (Wyshock) Kozloski, on November 30, 2016.
Born on May 12, 1936, and son of the late Stanley and Julia (Yucas) Kozloski, Bob was a graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1954. Upon graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, prior to his honorable discharge. He returned home to study architecture at Johnson College before working as a boiler operator at Scranton Steam Heat, prior to his retirement.
An avid sports fan, Bob rooted for the Boston Red Sox and Pittburgh Steelers and was a die-hard Penn State Nittany Lion fan. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a longtime fisherman and hunter.
Even the most inclement of weather couldn’t keep Bob from traveling to the casino. He never met a casino nor slot machine he didn’t like and he was certainly a familiar face at the horse track. He also enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, shuffle board and cornhole, always enjoying the company of others while playing.
It is Bob’s warm smile, kindness, selflessness and love for family which will never be forgotten. He was adored as the greatest father, grandfather and great grandfather and neighbor who’d truly do anything for anyone.
Of Roman Catholic faith, he was an active member of St. Patrick’s Parish where he volunteered in countless ways, garnering sincere appreciation from the parishioners.
He is survived by his loving family; children, caregivers Susan Loscombe and husband John (Jack), Jr., and Theresa Besecker and husband James, all of Scranton, and Robert Kozloski, Jr., of Maryland; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Marcella Zigmund of Lititz; and nieces and nephews.
His brothers, Edward and Stanley “Butch” Kozloski and a sister, Judy Mayock, also preceded him in death.
Bob’s family would like to acknowledge and thank those who took such amazing care of him, especially Drs. Karen Paczkowski, Ferdinand Manahan, Kevin Olsen, along with the entire staff of Traditional Home Health and Hospice, including nurses Jamie and Kelsey. Their collective kindness and compassionate will never be forgotten.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street, Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Burial with full military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until Mass time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to St. Patrick’s Church c/o 1401 Jackson St., Scranton, PA 18504.
