Elizabeth “Betty” (Keating) Haduch, age 81, a longtime resident of Spring Brook, passed away Tuesday at home after an illness. She is survived by her loyal caregiver and beloved husband, Frank Haduch, Sr. The couple celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on January 30th.
Born in Taylor on May 7, 1940, and daughter of the late Harold, Sr., and Edith (Thomas) Keating, Betty was a graduate of the former Taylor High School, Class of 1957. She raised an amazing family while also working as a seamstress in the local garment industry.
Betty seemed to make friends wherever she was. She was caring, nurturing and certainly selfless. She was the matriarch of her family and was instrumental in raising her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter, ensuring her legacy will long live on. Family meant the world to her.
She enjoyed riding motorcycles in her younger days and, never one to pass up the opportunity for a good shopping spree, Betty was a staple at Boscov’s Department Store. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Church in West Scranton.
She is survived by her three loving children, Frank Haduch of Avoca, Dawn Marie Carpenter of Avoca and Denise Hague and husband Jeff of Spring Brook; seven grandchildren, Kristin Ives, Jayden and Faryn Hague, BreeAnn, Braelynn and Brentyn Lee Carpenter, and Alexandria Haduch; a great granddaughter, McKenna Ives; siblings, Jane King and husband William of Hawley and Cindy Stolten and husband Ernie of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews. Brothers, Harold “Harry” Keating, Jr. and David Keating, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank both Dr. Guy Fasciana and his staff along with the entire staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for their collective care throughout the years.
Private arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation c/o 13770 Noel Road, Suite 801889, Dallas, TX 75380.
